Joshua Randall Director of Education
Join us in welcoming UXPA International’s new Director of Education, Joshua Randall! He is a Senior User Experience Designer at The Home Depot and past President of UXPA Cleveland.
We asked Joshua a few questions so our members can learn more about our newest Board Member!
1) How did you get started in UX?
I began my career in market research, then moved into I.T. business analysis. While a BA, I started asking questions like, ‘Who are we building this for?’ and ‘How well does this meet their needs?’ My eyes were opened when, at a BA association meeting, we had a guest speaker who was a UX designer. She recommended some books to me and from then on I knew UX was what I had be searching for my whole life!
2) What is most rewarding working in this industry?
The most rewarding thing about UX as a profession is the opportunity to make someone’s everyday life better through improvements to an interface or process they interact with. When someone says, “This is so much better than it was before” — that’s incredibly rewarding.
3) What inspired you to start volunteering for UXPA International?
Immediately after my exposure to UX, I started attending meetings of my local chapter, UXPA Cleveland (Ohio). After a few years I joined the board of UXPA Cleveland where I served as Secretary, Vice President, and President. Sadly, the combination of COVID plus declining membership forced us to shut down that chapter. But when the opportunity came up to serve UXPA International, I jumped at the chance.
4) What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming months?
I look forward to increasing awareness of the International Accreditation Program for UX Professionals and continued uptake of that credential. I’m also excited about other efforts we can make to further professionalize UX.
5) What song will always get you dancing?
As a child of the ’80s, St. Elmo’s Fire always gets me pumped.
