Alain Robillard-Bastien our Director of Volunteers sits down with Joshua Rosenberg to discuss his volunteering with UXPA International. What are your activities as a volunteer at UXPA? Since when? I’ve been the volunteer production manager at the Journal of Usability Studies since 2015. I work with the editorial team to manage uxpajournal.org, and am primarily responsible for making sure every journal issue gets published to the website four times per year. What motivated you to become a volunteer with us initially? I was in graduate school working with Bill Albert who, along with Jim Lewis, is editor-in-chief of the journal. World Usability Day aims to raise standards so that technology works to harness human potential. Every year events happen around the world to bring together different communities and celebrate how we can make our world easy for all. The theme for 2020 is Human-Centered AI. We seek to explore design systems that are both highly automated and allow a great degree of user control and will result in to expand human capabilities 1000-fold. If we can design AI which is “reliable, trusted, and safe” we can dramatically enhance human performance in the coming decade. Director of Volunteers Open Position – Join the UXPA International Board of Directors

Board members are volunteers that are responsible for leading the efforts of the organization. Candidates must be an active UXPA International member as of November 20th, 2020, and they must commit to the following: Serve at least 20 hours per month Attend monthly Board meeting calls Attend 3 in-person meetings a year in locations to be determined (one of which will be in conjunction with the annual conference) (Please note, this will be dependent on the situation with COVID-19 and any restrictions based on new requirements.
