UXPA International invites nominations for four key volunteer positions on our Board of Directors, for a 3 year term from July 2024 to June 2027. This is your opportunity to shape the future of the User Experience Professionals Association and make a significant impact in the UX community.

Roles Open for Nominations:

What We’re Looking For:

  • Current membership in UXPA International by May 30th
  • Proven leadership or volunteer experience in not-for-profit professional associations, preferably a UX association
  • Commitment of 20+ hours per month for board duties
  • Availability for monthly board meetings on Zoom and 2-3 in person meetings annually (travel expenses covered by UXPA)

OPEN POSITIONS

Role: Director of Chapters

Overview:

The Director of Chapters helps to serve, support, grow, and sustain UXPA Chapters – encourage activities that serve their communities. This person works to create closer ties of members to UXPA International through their local chapters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet with and train new / inactive chapters
  • Support Regional Chapter Directors
  • Serve as a point of reference for Regional Directors and Chapter Leaders
  • Act as Regional Director for areas that have not been appointed one
  • Ensure Chapter information is up-to-date on the UXPA website and spreadsheets
  • Communicate efficiently with fellow Board Members, Regional Directors, and Chapter Leaders using email, Zoom meetings, Slack, and possibly LinkedIn

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently with other board members and office staff
  • Must have had experience being part of a local UXPA Chapter
  • Prior volunteer experience with UXPA is required

Role: Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Overview:

The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion helps enhance outreach, promote professionalism, and lead our DEI strategy, initiatives, and action plans that serve our diverse UX community and members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with all board members on ways to continue our engagement of diverse communities and promote awareness of UXPA International DEI Initiatives
  • Establish and maintain metrics to measure the effectiveness of any DEI focused programs / initiatives, quarterly assess progress, and implement improvements 
  • Empower the board, members, and UX community with guidance and resources
  • Raise the awareness and understanding of DEI issues and foster inclusive culture within the UX community
  • Contribute to and support program planning, board activities, and communications throughout the year

Qualifications:

  • DEI Certified, a plus
  • Experience in outreach and engagement
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proven track record in a DEI role in a non-profit organization
  • In-depth knowledge of DEI principles, best practices, and emerging trends
  • UX background or work experience in UX organizations
  • Prior volunteer experience with UXPA is required

Role: Director of Partners and Sponsorship

Overview:

The Director of Partners and Sponsorship plays a pivotal role in the growth of the User Experience Professionals Association. This individual is instrumental in identifying and securing sponsorship opportunities and growing and nurturing the corporate membership base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and secure sponsorship opportunities: Proactively seek potential sponsors who align with UXPA’s values and goals, negotiate mutually beneficial sponsorship deals, and convert those opportunities into contracts for our annual event and organization.
  • Collaborate with event staff: Work closely with the Conference chairs, other board members, and office staff to explore sponsorship possibilities for UXPA offerings such as Conferences, Publications, Webinars, Short Courses, etc.
  • Corporate Membership Growth: Develop strategies to increase UXPA memberships within organizations, groups, and corporations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with UX-related vendors and organizations
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently with other board members and office staff
  • Prior volunteer experience with UXPA is required

Role: Director of Publications

Overview:

The Director of Publications oversees the vision and operations of two major publications: The Journal of User Experience (JUX), a peer-reviewed online journal, and UX Magazine, an online magazine featuring articles from members featuring articles for members of the UX community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review progress and help manage the latest issues for the journal and magazine
  • Review progress on updates to the publication websites and provide feedback
  • Serve as a point of contact for any general publication questions and redirects to magazine and journal leadership as necessary
  • Assists with the strategy for upcoming publication topics
  • Provide updates related to publications at monthly board meetings
  • Conduct monthly meetings with journal and magazine leadership
  • Promote the latest published publications on social media and create a summary to be posted to the UXPA blog

Qualifications:

  • Experience with an online or printed publication
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently with other board members and office staff
  • Prior volunteer experience with UXPA is required
