Kent State University’s nationally-ranked School of Information (iSchool) invites applications for a full-time associate/assistant (tenure track) faculty position in User Experience starting in fall 2023.

This position involves online and/or face-to-face teaching and advising to prepare students for careers and professional contributions in the field of user experience. Service to professional organizations, the school, and the university is expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have an earned doctorate at time of application or substantial completion of doctorate with expected official notification of completion of the degree by August 17, 2023. We are interested in candidates from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds, including human factors; human-computer interaction; information, communication, social, and psychological sciences; computer-supported collaborative work; and related research or industry areas. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a collaborative approach to advance a research agenda and/or contribute to curriculum development. Demonstrated potential for or a sustained track record of outstanding scholarship, original research, or creative activity, leading to publication and grant writing Candidates for the associate position will have a strong track record of high-quality published research and/or creative outputs. We seek candidates who are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:
Preference will be given to candidates with:
Strong interest in, or track record of, excellence in university teaching or industry training, as well as commitment to student success
Experience in industry or an interest in applied product research and/or user-centered approaches using qualitative or quantitative methodologies
Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.

The School of Information offers MS degree programs in user experience, health informatics, and knowledge management; an MLIS in library and information science; and an MLIS in school library media K-12. The school ranks 20th in the U.S. News & World Report ranking of Library and Information Science programs. Programs in User Experience (UX) include an online Master of Science (MS) and an undergraduate minor taught in partnership with the School of Visual Communication Design. The UX MS program attracts students from across the U.S. and internationally. The iSchool faculty values interdisciplinarity and a collaborative spirit in our approach to research and teaching.
