Position Title: Sr. User Experience Researcher 

Reports to: Manager, User Experience 
Location: Kalamazoo, MI
 
Job Summary: As a Senior User Experience Researcher, you will collaborate closely with other User Experience Researchers, Industrial Designers and Graphic Designers to create user experiences for the next generation of consumer products. In this role you will work to define and test the user experience between users and our products. This role requires an individual who can work independently as well as directly with our US based Design Team. The role offers opportunities to collaborate with Marketing, R&D, Consumer Market Insights, etc. across a wide array of office locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively collect key objective measures (i.e. physiological measures, motion tracking, etc.) via primary testing and directly translate data into actionable recommendations for product design
  • Create task analysis, competitive assessments, usability audits, usability testing and statistical data analysis
  • Act as a primary interface with key divisions relative to usability issues and opportunities
  • Work closely with design counterparts to effectively deliver industry leading user experience solutions
  • Responsible for managing and planning key projects/activities
  • Partner closely with all relevant divisions to ensure the deployment and adherence to established human factors design guidelines. Also own and maintain those guidelines and update/modify as required to keep relevant.
  • Help deliver cutting edge User Experience methodologies (human factors, usability, cognitive engineering, etc.) skills and services to the relevant divisions
  • Own key relationships with division marketing and R&D to deliver world class user experience solutions
  • Support the development of user experience related budgets as applicable
  • Effectively execute user-centered design activities and research throughout the product development process
Qualifications: 
  • Education: Minimum Masters of Science in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Ergonomics/Anthropometrics or related field
  • Work Experience: Five+ years of relevant experience working as a usability/human factors professional in a corporate or consulting environment
  • Communication: Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Data Visualization: Ability to visualize and present rich research data simply and clearly
  • Human Factors Engineering & Ergonomics: Ability to apply ergonomic and anthropometric data to drive requirements and improvements in products. Ideally experience with ergonomics/anthropometrics of physical components such as pens, tools or other hand held device
  • Research Methodologies: Experience on a broad range of research methodologies
  • Data Collection: Experience working with physiological data collection equipment
  • Data Analysis & Translation: Is able to move beyond data to obtain insights and effectively collaborate with multi-discipline teams leading to create measurable product improvements
  • User Centered Design: Experience doing all of the activities in the User Centered Design process from the initial information gathering to testing and documentation/specifications
  • Usability Testing: Ability to conduct an entire usability study: moderate, take notes, plan and design the research activities
  • Teams: Ability to work effectively across cross functional work teams
  • Motivation: Self-motivated and flexible; willing to learn new things
  • Project Management: Proven ability to drive multiple programs simultaneously
  • Behavior: Ability to work independently toward project goals and timelines with no direction
  • Travel: Ability to occasionally travel and work internationally
  • Technical Experience: MS Visio, Statistical Software (i.e. SPSS, etc.), Adobe Creative Suite (preferred) and MS Office
