Assistant Professor or Assistant Lecturer

Miami University seeks an Assistant Professor or Assistant Lecturer in User Experience Research. This faculty member will teach courses in user experience, advise students and provide service to the university. The Assistant Professor is also expected to maintain an active research and/or creative program. Faculty in Interactive Media Studies are involved in interdisciplinary faculty research; facilitate graduate/undergraduate research projects; lead client-based projects; help lead co-curricular activities and student organizations. Interactive Media Studies also houses the Center for Research in user Experience (CRUX) that uses a wide range of technologies, including eye tracking, galvanic skin response and facial expression analysis to better understand how users interact with screen-based stimuli and images. The College of Creative Arts, one of Miami University's five academic divisions, includes five departments: Architecture/Interior Design, Art, Music, and Theater. IMS is an innovative degree-granting program driven by emerging interactive technologies and a cohort of collaborative faculty who build “horizontal” curriculum and research across campus. Minimum requirements are as follows:

For appointment as Assistant Professor: PhD in any human-computer interaction field or MFA in design, user-experience or related field by date of appointment.

For appointment as Assistant Lecturer: Master’s in any human-computer interaction field by date of appointment; documented extraordinary post-baccalaureate experience in human-computer interaction industry.

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, admitted for residence as an applicant under the 1986 immigration amnesty law, refugee or asylee.

In addition, for the Assistant Professor position, consideration may be given to candidates with demonstrable experience in the human-computer interaction industry or teaching experience. For the Assistant Lecturer position, consideration may be given to candidates with teaching experience.
