Most of you know that our UXPA 2018 International Conference is slated to take place in June 2018 in Puerto Rico – which was directly hit by Hurricane Maria. We've been in contact with the conference hotel almost daily and the good news is, slowly but surely, the hotel – and the entire island – are rebuilding and recovering.
An excerpt from the report we received from the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort:
“Our property endured damage from the storm although, because of meticulous planning and prioritizing the human element first, we are truly lucky that all of our associates and guests are safe and sound. We are currently housing property aid workers, government officials, security officials, and existing guests. Most of all, our incredible associates have returned to the resort and are assisting with cleanup efforts.
We're also fortunate that our property was not nearly as damaged as it could have been. We believe that by focusing wholly on the revitalization of our property for a period of time, we will be set up for success. Therefore, our mission now is to ensure that Wyndham Grand Rio Mar is back to the level of service and experience that you expect for your event, so we have closed our resort for the next few months to achieve that goal.
Our current expectation is that we will reopen in January.”
The hotel is providing updates as info becomes available – current property images will be shared online soon.
UXPA International believes that one of the best ways to help the economy of Puerto Rico and its tourism industry is to bring our amazing group there. We support Puerto Rico as we continue with our conference planning and remain excited about next summer. The UXPA 2018 International Conference will be held in Puerto Rico, June 26-28.
Be a part of it – it's going to be an amazing week!
